Look at our marvelous, refurbished and now landscaped new signs! These are the SLIGO WOODS signs at four of the entrances to our neighborhood.
Thank you to all the volunteers who created, painted, and installed our new signs. Thanks also to the people who collected plant donations and nurtured the plants, and to members who gave of their time to plant the beautiful new native plants. Special thanks go to our organizer Michele, woodworking expert Jerry, artistic advisor and painter Barbara, plant expert Nithya, board liaison Mary, and all the many hands that came together to complete these three signs. The fourth and final sign is almost ready to install and landscape.
If you’re interested in taking part, please watch for announcement of the date: here on the website or on an email that will be sent to all members from < SligoWoods@gmail.com >.
Please join the sign committee on Saturday, July 28th, to help beautify our new neighborhood signs by planting native flowers and plants! We will start at 8:00 am, meeting at the sign at the intersection of Gilmoure and Dennis (near Collins Funeral Home). Please bring gardening gloves and tools for digging.
Hurrah and thanks to the 50-some neighbors (mostly adults, some kids) who came to the summer picnic, braving the 90-some degree heat…and then we were surprised to find that, in the shade and with the breeze, it was actually pleasant. The food was a fabulous distraction, from brats-in-a-bun to vegan slaw, lemony potato salad to fresh fruit salad, strawberry pie to heaping plates of gorgeous brownies—a ten-foot spread of tasty and varied picnic food. A few people played badminton but mostly there was talking and talking, people obviously enjoying the chance to meet others who live in the neighborhood. Cheers for upper-Tenbrook’s Meg DeFrancesco, who was the primary organizer of this year’s event.

We would like to extend our TREMENDOUS thanks to Jasmine Kuzner, who served as secretary, and before that on the formation committee that stood up what we now have, so she has been involved continuously for the last three years. We have a better community because of all of her work.
