New Residents Welcomed

The Sligo Woods Civic Association formed a committee to welcome new residents to the neighborhood and launched the new initiative over the summer.  The committee–headed by Mary Moore and with the help of members Lashon Lissimore, Barbara Scardino and Sandra Hinman–worked together to create welcome bags to hand to new residents.*  The welcome bags contain information about the Civic Association, additional information about living in the Greater Silver Spring area, and some generous gifts from several local businesses.  The bags themselves are wonderful reusable tote bags in a sunny yellow with the Sligo Woods Civic Association logo.

The initial welcome-wagon operation was launched last week, and the committee members have greeted all identified new residents (houses that were either sold or rented since May).  In total to date, the committee has visited 28 houses and met with many wonderful new neighbors.  The new residents are great addition to our diverse community and hail from great places like Texas, Japan, and Nicaragua.

The committee will continue to identify new residents and distribute the welcome bags on a monthly basis.  While identifying new residents via home sales is easy, finding new residents who are renting is a little trickier.  The committee is asking that Civic Association members help us identify rental properties that have new people moving into the neighborhood.  Please email any information to Mary Moore at moorem09@verizon.net.  The committee also welcomes any ideas or new volunteers.

* Thank you to Jeanette from Gilmoure Drive and Audrey from Gregory Street, who helped the committee deliver the large number of bags this month.
